Week 13 (April 21st to April 24th)

This week’s topics included the ongoing developments of rancher Cliven Bundy and the news media’s coverage of what he has done, and the questions about Russia’s involvement in Ukraine and what Vladimir Putin is saying about it. Also this week the state of female politicians and how they are still facing double standards especially in coverage by the the news. A segment of the emotions of male politicians in the media and how they are talked about compared to female politicians by the news media was shown on Tuesday’s show. On Wednesday’s show Stephen Colbert came on the show to discuss what he will be doing now that he will be hosting the Late Show. A video of some of his best moments from his time on the Daily Show was put together by Colbert himself which showed his own brand of humor and satirical comments. On Thursday another former correspondent, John Oliver, came on the show in the middle of a skit and then discussed his new show Last Week Tonight on HBO which premiered Sunday April 27 at 11pm. Guests this week included EPA administrator GIna McCarthy who talked about what they are doing for the environment and how they are handling climate change now and ABC’s “Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts discusses her battle with breast cancer and how she is doing and author Ramachandra Guha talks about his book Gandhi Before India.

Next week’s guests include former pro baseball player Mookie Wilson and actor David Spade.

Week 11 (April 7th to April 10th)

This week’s shows focused on the  various responses from the outcome of healthcare signups and how the media has covered it specifically the Latino media. The college basketball tournament was also discussed and the results (UCONN for both men’s and women’s teams). This week also featured great acting talent as Denis Leary, from the sports film Draft Day appeared on Tuesday’s show, Colin Firth (who was great in the 2010 Oscar winning film The King’s Speech, talked about his new film The Railway Man about a POW in Thailand. On Thursday’s show actress Jennifer Garner, also in the film Draft Day alongside Kevin Costner and Denis Leary talked about her role and the film and what it was like working with Costner. Author Matt Taibbi discussed his book “The Divide” about the wealth gap on Monday’s show. This week Jon Stewart dedicated a few minutes to congratulate former Daily Show correspondent Stephen Colbert on his new job as host of the Late Show and showed a very funny clip from a segment that summed up Colbert and what he brought as correspondent on the show.

There is no show next week (4/14-4/17) but like always the Daily Show will be back delivering all sorts of news and developments from the week.

Week 10 (March 31st to April 3rd)

This week’s shows focused on the investigation into the George Washington Bridge lane closures which found that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie would not be held responsible for the closures. Also this week the coverage of Flight 370 on CNN gets even more creative as new developments, or lack of, do not shed much light on what happened but CNN found ways to keep covering the story due to a rating boost from their coverage of the story last week. The General Motors vehicle recall and the story behind the faulty ignition switches comes out as new CEO Mary Barra goes in front of Congress to answer questions about the recall and how long the company knew about the ignition switch problem but did not do anything about it. Correspondent Aasif Mandvi reports on the Supreme Court’s ruling that the amount of money rich Americans can give in support of political candidates should be changed and be more than what is already in place. On Monday, Peter Dinklage of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” talks about filming the show. On Tuesday’s show author Michael Lewis talks about his new book Flash Boys about the Wall Street system which was very interesting. Actor Samuel L. Jackson talks about his new film “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and what it is like to work on action movies on Wednesday’s show. On Thursday Brazilian soccer player Pele talks about his amazing career and highlights from it. Next week’s guests include actor Colin Firth and actress Jennifer Garner.

Week 9 (March 24th to March 27th)

After being on vacation last week, The Daily Show picked up where they left off and discussed the new developments about Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 and the conspiracies and theories CNN and Fox News talked about  as to what happened. Jon Stewart talked about the ridiculousness and “creativity” of these reports and the lack of any real theory or explanation of what may have happened to the plane. Also talked about this week was the annexation of Crimea by Russia and what this means for the rest of the world and for Crimea and Russia going forward. Another segment on Mitch McConnell and #mcconnelling aired on Tuesday with videos that viewers made with McConnell’s political ad and different songs. Other takes on this were coined #meconnelling and #mcconnellhey with Matthew McConaughey movies being dubbed into the video. On Wednesday’s show correspondent Samantha Bee did a segment similar to one she did a few months ago where she acted out the characters and the news show The Five but this time it was the news show Morning Joe. Arianna Huffington of the “Huffington Post” discussed her book “Thrive” on Monday’s show. Actor Jude Law talked about his movie Dom Hemingway and how he got into character for his role on Tuesday’s show. Political analyst Nate Silver discussed his newly launched website FiveThirtyEight.com and about his comments and predictions about the midterm elections and the 2016 Presidential Election. On Wednesday’s show author Amy Yates Wuelfing talked about her book “No Slam Dancing, No Stage Diving, No Spikes” and Gibby Haynes, frontman of Butthole Surfers both talked about City Gardens, a famous nightclub in New Jersey.  Next week’s guest include actor Samuel L. Jackson and author Michael Lewis (“The Blind Side, “Moneyball”).

Week 7 (March 10th to March 13th)

This week’s shows focused on the ongoing crisis in Crimea with Russia trying to take over the region and gain more control and also on the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) convention where conservatives talk about the presidency and the state of the country and who should be the person to lead the country during the next presidential election in 2016. After comments made on the show last week about how Fox News was covering welfare spending and the poor the channel responded with their thoughts on what Jon Stewart had said. In typical Daily Show fashion Jon Stewart responded by talking about what was wrong with how Fox was covering the topic over the last few years. Also this week, Pope Francis’s first year as Pope was discussed and what he has done to change how Christianity is viewed and why he has been a very different Pope. On Monday’s show author Paul Taylor talked about his book The Next America about the millennial generation. On Tuesday Judge Andrew Napolitano discussed comments he made on television about his contrarian views on President Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War which was very interesting and thought-provoking. Actor Jason Bateman was interviewed on Wednesday and on Thursday Anita Hill talked about a documentary based on her life titled Anita. Also on Thursday’s show there was a very funny segment on Mitch McConnell’s ad campaign set to different songs as the ad had no talking just music. This was coined #McConnelling and was a funny and light way to end the week.

Week 6 (March 3rd to March 6th)

This weeks shows focused on the ongoing crisis in the Ukraine and what Russia is doing in Crimea with new developments each day as the crisis unfolds and intensifies. Correspondent Aasif Mandvi did a great segment on healthcare and the state of it here in the United States. On Monday’s show Family Guy creator and actor/director Seth MacFarlane discussed his new book A Million Ways to Die in the West based on the screenplay and movie of the same name. MSNBC host Rachel Maddow of “The Rachel Maddow Show” talked about her new film airing on MSNBC Why We Did It  which takes a look back at the Iraq War and those involved in the decision to go to war or not and what they think about the war and what happened ten years later. On Tuesday’s show former Senator and author Jim DeMint talked about his new book Falling in Love with America Again and on Thursday’s show Barnard College Professor and  Political Scientist Kimberly Marten discusses the crisis in Crimea and Russia’s role in the region.

Week 5 (Feb. 24th to Feb. 27th)

This week was the first full one in two weeks. After the end of the Olympics in Sochi correspondent Jason Jones’ final report from Russia aired on Monday’s show, after a very entertaining and humorous few weeks with reports that only The Daily Show could do.  The protests in the Ukraine and the arrest of Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman were covered. Actor Liam Neeson was interviews on Wednesday’s show about his new film Non-Stop and Kevin Roose talked about his new book Young Money: Inside the Hidden World of Wall Street’s Post-Crash Recruits on Thursday. This book sounds very interesting and I may add it to my reading list for the summer. Michio Kaku, physics professor at the City University of New York,  talked about his book The Future of the Mind on Tuesday’s show. This was a very fascinating interview.  On Monday’s show Hooman Majd talked about life in Iran which was also very interesting. The guests on this week’s shows were very interesting and what they talked about  was very thought-provoking and covered a variety of topics and ideas.

Week 4 (Feb. 17th to Feb. 20th)

This week was another short one with no show on Monday because of the Presidents Day holiday.

This week focused on the Michael Dunn Murder Trial and its controversy, Drones and the ongoing debate on whether they should be used, and laws that may be put in place around the country. Correspondent Jason Jones continues his reports from Russia interviewing political leaders and citizens about the Olympics and the state of the country. Interviews this week included Kevin Space of the popular Netflix series House of Cards on Tuesday and David O. Russell, director of the Oscar nominated film American Hustle starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence on Wednesday’s show. Ronan Farrow talks about his show Ronan Farrow Daily on MSNBC during Thursday’s show. There was also a funny segment on Thursday’s show where Jon Stewart was trying to eat but the foods he had (from Subway, a cheese sandwich with Kraft singles, and a Hot Pocket) were being changed (Subway) or recalled (Kraft and Hot Pockets).

Next week will be the first full week in the last two weeks.
